New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday morning arrested the woman lawyer who allegedly honey-trapped BJP parliamentarian KC Patel and blackmailed him to cough up Rs 5 crore.
Police sources said that she was served a notice this morning to join the probe after which she was brought to the North Avenue police station around 9 am for questioning. The woman had last week alleged that Patel raped her multiple times though the police did not file an FIR immediately.
Sources said that she was questioned at length on Tuesday about the episode and her statement was found to be incoherent, following which she was further interrogated.
“The investigators asked her to narrate the entire sequence of events of the day when the MP allegedly went to her house. She was also questioned on their friendship that reportedly dates back to 2015. Also, she was asked why were there cameras installed in the bedroom of her house,” a police source said.
The MP from Valsad in Gujarat had filed a complaint with Delhi Police after the lawyer accused the lawmaker of rape last week. Patel said the woman allegedly befriended him and took him to her home in Ghaziabad to meet her family. He alleged that she gave him a drink laced with sedatives and he fell unconscious after which she clicked his objectionable pictures.
Police registered a case of extortion and began investigation on the basis of his complaint.
Sources said that the woman in September 2016, got a rape case registered against a Haryana MP at Tilak Marg police station but retracted from her statement later. “She was asked why she retracted from her statement earlier for which she had no answers. We are also checking her credentials and ask her to furnish details of her being a practising lawyer,” a police officer said.
